Meet Tiran

Tiran Rayman was my first Myote "character". As in, she was the first Myote with a name and personality. I remember walking through the tall grasses in the field behind my friend's back yard with Tiran's imaginary form padding happily beside me.

Her name actually came from my love for Dinosaurs... she is, as you can probably guess, named after the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Except I changed the Y to an I... which is kind of funny now since the main Myote vowel sound is Y.

Naturally, as Myotes originally started out on all fours, so did Tiran. :) As shown in previous posts, she has changed appearance quite a bit, but not entirely. She has always had her green necklace with the flower pendant and her bright blue eyes. Pictures of Tiran's progression through time can be found here.

Tiran is the daughter of Tulsa Rayman and King Aharamen Tyrril Clawflynt and is the third oldest in the clan of Aharamen after Chelsea and Matherine. As such, she is one of the seven rulers of J'baqre Ynaq, destined to end the war with the Sapyrs. Her representational moon is Hyfob - a opalescent sea-foam green colored moon that looms in the southern regions of the sky.

As a user of earth/nature magic, Tiran is what you would call a "tree hugger". Her absolute love for nature and the world around her does, however, make her incredibly bitter towards humans for the damage they inflict on the Earth.

Tiran is a warrior, and in charge of the Myotes military forces. While ferocious in battle, Tiran is very level headed and easy going. It is her level-headedness combined with her strength and fortitude that make Tiran a great leader, and a great warrior. Although Tiran is not fond of humans, she has spent quite a bit of time among them in order to study and learn new fighting techniques to use in battle. Her weapon of choice is a broadsword with a green rowans gem, carved into the shape of a leaf, set into the hilt. She also carries a dagger with her in case of close quarters and, of course, is not afraid to use her teeth and claws if need be.

Other than Mrinx, Tiran is probably the character with the strongest personality, as she has been around the longest and has had the most amount of time to build character with me. Needless to say, she is one of my favorites.

The picture to the left shows a very old drawing of Tiran's human form. This was probably done back around 1996. I will probably draw a new picture of her human form relatively soon.

So there is the run down on Tiran. Stay tuned for more character updates.

Unknown Darkness: Origins - Darkness Falls

Darkness Falls is the prequel I am working on to the Myote storyline. I say prequel because the stories I already have done take place after Darkness Falls. You could say that it is the main backstory for my stories.

The main character of Darkness Falls is Prince Aharamen Tyrril Clawflynt who is later known as King Aharamen.

So here's the basic storyline:

- Myoties are one of the original inhabitants of Earth. They share the planet with mankind and the wide variety of creatures that are now considered "mythical" in human culture. They are the advanced race while humans are still relatively primitive, tribal, and lack their own technology. They are responsible for creating the great wonders of the world as they have extremely advanced technology (including space travel), as well as the ability to harness certain energies to perform "magical" feats. Some Myoties believe that they should share their knowledge with humans, while others feel it is blasphemy against their culture.

-Their life on Earth is threatened when they find that an asteroid is heading towards the planet, so they build a sort of massive "ark", take samples of the species on Earth (including dragons, dinosaurs, unicorns, Pegasus', and the like as well as normal animal species), and prepare a massive evacuation of the planet. The humans decide that God will protect them, and choose to stay on Earth and face the danger. Some Myoties stay behind to watch over the humans, while the majority evacuate into space. Earth is hit by the meteor (the same one credited to killing off the dinosaurs) and the majority of life on the Earth is wiped out, save for a few species and a few humans. The Earth is essentially reset and begins it's progress through the time and history we know of following that moment.

-Meanwhile, the Myoties' ships land on a faraway planet that they affectionately name "J'baqre Ynaq" (translates roughly to "Wonderful Land"). It is a very lush, green planet. They strike up settlements and gradually release the species they brought with them that survived the trip. The Myote scientists discover that this planet's energy operates in a different manner than Earths. On Earth, when something dies, it becomes dirt, and feed the planet by returning to the planet in that manner. On J'baqure Ynaq", when a being dies, they become crystallized energy, known as "Rowens gems" which can be harnessed as a usable power source.

-Life progresses wonderfully for the Myotes, until they discover that they are not alone. Sapyres, a highly aggressive, and highly advanced race that lives off of the energy of other creatures, begin to attack the Myote settlers. With no where else to go, the Myotes make attempts to make peace with the Sapyres, with no positive results. Eventually, the altercations between the two races turns to a war that lasts for generations.

-The Origins story ends when our hero, Prince Aharamen, is betrayed to the Sapyres, but not before he hides one of his children, disguised as a human, in the world of men, to return one day to save his people.

Now, here's what I have written so far. A whopping two pages. LOL.

Note: The character, Anubis, is of course the Jackal headed Egyptian god. Myotes are a canine based species, and it is only fair that as one that stays behind to help the humans that he should be considered a "god" by the "primitive" humans.... tell me if it's lame. Ha ha ha

_____________________________________________________________________

Prince Aharamen stepped out onto the palace balcony. The cool autumn air pricked his skin lightly. Today was just another day. Every day was just the same for Aharamen, and he knew that his day would be filled with his princely duties. His father, King Aharamen Cyris Clawflynt had made sure that Aharamen had been educated in the ways of the royal practices since the day he was able to walk. Though he knew his role well, Aharamen would have chosen a much different path for himself. But he was a prince and the only son of the clan of Aharamen. His responsibility would be to replace his father after he passed.

His gaze passed over the three pyramids of granite that stood out above the trees. Their surfaces glistened white in the sun, and the largest of the three sparkled where gold tipped its peak. These great pyramids were only a few of the massive land marks his people had placed around the planet in order to aid with celestial navigations. These particular pyramids were lined up exactly with the three stars in Orion’s belt. Prince Aharamen, himself, had set up this project. Space fascinated him, though he had not personally traveled through it as often as he would have liked. His position in the royal palace kept him much too busy for such luxuries. However, he studied the stars in his spare time and he often dreamed that some day he might explore the great unknown beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.

“Aharamen,” a dark, soothing voice boomed behind him. “Are you coming down to court?”

Aharamen sighed and turned to face his friend. “Of course, Anubis. Do I ever miss court?”

Anubis chuckled and shook his head. “Never. You’re too dedicated to your work for that.”

Anubis was Aharamen’s best friend. Unlike most of his kind, he was jet black from head to toe with a mane that matched. Anubis kept his mane cropped short, much like the humans he favored. Aharamen never understood Anubis’ infatuation with mankind. To Aharamen, humans were lesser beings, unworthy of respect, and definitely not worthy of admiration. Unlike his own species, humans lacked many essential traits for survival. They had no fur for warmth, they had no claws for climbing or defense, and their teeth were short and dull. Their senses were so poor that anything could walk up and bite them before they even noticed. Humans could not adapt, they expected everything to change to suit them.

But Anubis loved these helpless creatures. He showed them how to live beyond the savagery their species was accustomed to. He even shared technology with them, in hopes that some day the human mind could grasp the complexity of the Myote creations. Anubis was always trying to convince Aharamen of man’s potential, but Aharamen would never believe it until he saw it first hand.

Aharamen passed his friend and gently nudged him in the shoulder. “It’s called ‘duty’, nyfahtuf (brother). You should try it sometime.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Anubis asked, more amused than angry.

“Nothing, really.” Aharamen shook his head as he entered the hallway. “Just that you spend your days with primitives instead of focusing on bettering your own kind.”

Anubis heaved a heavy sigh. “Not this again! I’ve told you, they aren’t primitives. They are just as capable as we are, they just need-“

“Intelligence?” Aharamen cut in.

“Guidance,” Anubis finished curtly. “Look, I don’t know why you are so against them. Humans are wonderful creatures. They are so innocent.”

“For now.” The prince brushed back a lock of long, chocolate brown hair. “They will corrupt our knowledge and use it to destroy the planet. They might be innocent as beasts, but they lack the adaptability and intelligence and self control to use knowledge for anything but greed. You will see, Anubis. Besides, what is the point in sharing knowledge with such weak creatures? They are nothing but cattle. Our ancestors made meat out of them; it should have stayed that way.”

Anubis fell silent for a moment and then met his friend’s cold, green eyes. “You will never see the beauty in mankind until you see what a treasure their frailty is.”

Aharamen snorted. “Right. I will keep that in mind.”

The conversation ended and the pair silently wove their way through the corridors towards the courtroom, the sound of footsteps echoing off the stone walls.

The Myote Language

I spent so much time developing the race and culture of the Myotes and I wanted to take it a step further. I wanted them to have their own language. After all, if J.R.R. Tolkien was able to give his elves Quenya and whoever made up Klingons gave them a functional, learnable language, than why couldn't Myotes have a language? After all, I studied foreign languages and linguistics in college.

So I've been working on a Myote dictionary/language. This is obviously not a complete work as of yet. Eventually I will make audio recordings of the pronunciations.

It uses Japanese sentence structure. Ie. Noun (particle) object (particle) verb.

Sounds and actual words are completely different and generally unrelated... a good linguist would be able to figure out how I came up with them, but for now I'll keep it a secret. :D

Here's what I have so far. English is first. Pronunciation is in {brackets}, Myote spelling is last, and pronunciation notes are in these [Brackets].

Pronunciation notes:
All usual vowels, AEIOU, are always pronounced "ah", "eh", "ee","oh", "oo". "Y" is ALWAYS a vowel in Myote.

Q's in the Myote language make the "K" sound and do not need a "U" following them. Myote words often end in Q. (ie. the word for land, "Ynaq" - (Ee-nah-ck)
X's make a "cks" sound (like in the word "kicks") at the end of a word, but make a "Z" sound used at the beginning or in the middle of words with a few select exceptions where they are occasionally pronounced as a "sh" sound.
The apostrophe indicates a stop, and if a hard consonant sound like a K follows said apostrophe, it will be made in the glottis (back of the throat).

Nouns (Relations):

Boy - {Nah-ee} Nai

Girl - {See-fix} Syfx [note here, the "i" isn't actually vocalized, it is a non-vocalized "i" that occurs naturally when transitioning from an "F" sound to a "cks" sound.]

Man - {Zoh-b} Zob

Woman - {Kah-zoh-b} Kazob

Husband - {Teh-noh-b-k} Tenob'k [note: pause briefly on B and then make the K in the back of your throat... I promise some day I will record all these. >_<]

Wife - {Kee-roo} Kyru

Mother - {Zah-toof} Zahtuf [silent H]

Father - {Roh-toof} Rohtuf [silent H]

Sister - {Geeg-hoof} Gyghuf

Brother - {Nee-fah-toof} Nyfahtuf [silent H]

Son - {Gah-b} Gab

Daughter - {Koh-est-hoof} Qoesthuf

Uncle - {Eh-beep-zoo} Ebyp'xu [pause briefly at ']

Aunt - {Oh-eh-be-eh} Oebyh [the H on the end of the word following the Y here softens the y sound and should sound almost like... letting out breath while making the sound. Should be airy.]

Cousin - {Pah-eh-geeb} Paegyb

Niece - {Bee-oo-poo} Byupu

Nephiew - {Boo-k-tee-ook} Buctyuk

Baby - {Noh-nee} Noni

Family - {Roh-zix-ee} Rozyxi [this is one of the few exceptions to the usual X rules... mainly because usual "consonantYconsonat" combos count as one whole syllable.]

Friend - {Reef-yoob-k} Ryfyub'q [pause briefly on B and then make the K in the back of your throat... takes practice.]

Love - {Zah-joo} Xaju

Lover - {Zah-joof} Xajuf

Greetings/Sayings:

Hello - {Tooks-zah} Tuxxa

Good Morning - {Sah-k ~ Zah-f-bee-beese} Saaq Zaf'bybys [Almost like "sock zaf-beebeese" :p]

Good Afternoon - {Sah-k ~ Oh-ruff-bah-b} Saaq Orhufbaab [Sounds kinda like "sock Oh-ruff-bab" :p]

Good Evening - {Sah-k ~ Oo-joo-bee-beese} Saaq Ujubybys

Good Night - {Sah-k ~ Bees-th} Saaq Bysth [Bysth will make you sound like you have a lisp. ^_^]

Bye - {Nee-oo} Niu

See you later - {Goo ~ ee-ah-eh ~ Zoh-hoof} Guu iae xohuf [I realize that pronouncing a group of vowels like that is difficult for most people who have never studied a language that has words that are made up entirely out of vowels... it gets easier with time, trust me. :)]

The weather is nice, isn't it? - {Ah ~ koo-oh-toof ~ toh ~ bee-poo ~ koo-geh ~ boo} A kuohtuf to bypu quge bu?

Yes, it is. - {Ee-oog ~ koo-geh ~ boo} Iug quge bu.

My name is... - {Zee ~ bah ~ boh-zoo ~ koh ~ ...... ~ koo-geh} Zi ba bozu ko ............. quge. [fill your name in the ...............]

:)

BUT WAIT!

I didn't just stop with the sounds and sentence structure! :D I created a character set.

Myote written in Myote... twice. The second writing is in more of a "brush script".

J'baqre Ynaq written in Myote:

"Hello. How are you?"
"I am good."

And some Myote poetry...

Translation:
Spring flowers fall
Like snow
White petals cover the Land
Hyfob on the horizon
Like a mist-green pearl
Looms in the sky

(Note: Hyfob is one of the seven moons of J'baqre Ynaq)

More to come later!

Or should I say...

Xohuf, zafu kyxx pazu!
(zoh-hoof, zah-foo kicks pah-zoo)

So what is a Myote anyway?

This particular post is about the transformation of a species from the time it was created until now. It shows how something can majorly change over time.

________________________________________________________
So what is a Myote anyway??

Myotes are, simply put, "monster coyotes". (Monster - onster) + (coyotes - co) = Myotes. Yes, I know it's kind of silly. Before you judge, keep in mind that these creatures were invented by ten year old kids. :)

So that's how they were named. Now, what are they exactly?

Humanoid canines. The original Myotes had six inch long fangs, like a saber tooth tiger, a long muzzle, five-fingered human-like hands, and a mane that ran from their foreheads down to their shoulders. They also only came with three eye colors. Red eyed Myotes were weak, yellow eyed Myotes were moderately strong, and blue eyed Myotes were the strongest.

They were also highly carnivorous - with humans being at the top of their dietary wish list. Their only weaknesses were music (apparently... it says so on that stats sheet anyway) and poison from a "certain" flower. Not clarified in the original drawing (pictured left), however, the certain flower was, in fact, a black lotus flower.

Originally, Myotes were quadrupeds, walking on four legs only. As time went on, however, they developed the ability to walk on their hind legs (pictured right). At this point in time, it was decided that it would be normal for female Myotes to not have manes. At the same time that the Myotes became bipeds, they also discovered Rowens gems- gems they used to channel energy-based magic.

In the picture to the right, you can see the first drawing of Tiran (center with flower garland), with Cyan playing the harp in the background, It looks like Chelsea is playing the drums (although I am not sure why I drew a mane on her), and Tamass is playing the flute in the corner. You can also see that a few of the Myotes in the drawing are wearing necklaces with Rowens gems.

It was not long before King Nicoli emerged with his desire to mutate and change Myotes (and anything else he got his hands on). Unfortunately, I can't find the first drawing I did of Cyan and Matherine after they were captured and mutated with dragon's blood. But one thing to note is that at the time that this mutation first emerged, Matherine and Cyan were the only Myotes that featured the heel-talon that all Myotes now have.

Soon after Matherine and Cyan's dragon-blood mutation, all Myotes emerged with the heel-talon. And then, a major development! Myotes began to wear clothes - developing their own cultural style of clothing as well as hair styles. You can see by the two drawings posted above of Tiran and Matherine, that they still maintained a five fingered hand. Myotes developed the three-fingered hand through sheer accident... If you look at the hand Tiran has on her waist in the above picture, it looks as though it has three fingers. I liked the way that looked, so I kept it.

So... muzzles got shorter, ears got longer, feet got bigger.... and lo and behold! The modern Myote!

In short, Myotes went from being ferocious beasts of the forest to becoming a civilized, cultured, and intellectual species. But that doesn't mean that they can't revert back into their former form... :)

The Creation of a World

Sixteen years ago, two young children were playing in the forest when they discovered a mystical world behind the door of their imaginations. They called that world "Wonder Land", because to them, it was their very own Wonder Land. Creatures of all shapes and sizes lived there, including the Myotes.

As time went on, one of those kids grew up and moved on - the other continued to explore that world and it was not long before she knew the language, the culture, and the beings that lived there. Soon the "wonder land" had an identity of it's own. It was J'baqre Ynaq, as called by the natives.

This blog is about that world - the world of the Myotes.
